+ The N/C Programmer is responsible for the development and preparation of numerical programs used to drive N/C and CNC machine tools. The programmer selects the necessary cutting tools and establishes the sequence of operation for the machine's operations. The programmer creates the necessary machine code to drive the cutting tool's cutter path. The N/C Programmer must utilize both graphics- and language-based systems.


+ Prepare N/C programs as necessary to support production requirements.

+ Prepare detailed master programs for common part families such as impeller, shafts etc.

+ Develop post processors for machine tools to allow flexibility of machine selection.

+ Prepare set-up sheets to identify cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and to establish the sequence of operations.

+ Load N/C part programs to the DNC system for communications with machine tools.

+ Must provide input during design reviews, giving input on casting techniques and machining improvement opportunities. Advise Design Engineering of machine capability and capacity limitations.

+ Assist the operators in the proper techniques needed to perform the required tasks as defined by the N/C program. Train operators to read machine code to insure proper application of N/C program.


+ Continuously monitor shop paper work. Insure the flow of information is both useful and timely.

+ Prepare manufacturability analysis of new designs and determine manufacturing impact.

+ Prepare cost estimates as required.

+ Determine the equipment, processes, and systems necessary to maintain a competitive manufacturing capability.

+ Project management duties for task related projects.

+ Assures PC and machine computer communications work properly.

+ Monitor IT system enhancements to insure compatibility with N/C Machine tool communications

+ Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide LEAN and EHS Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Supports and cooperates in company-wide Quality Management effort.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.



+ Associate Degree in a technical/mechanical field, or comparable training and experience

+ Minimum of five years N/C programming experience using a language and graphics based systems

+ Two years of general machinist experience

+ Familiarization with pattern making, rigging and core fabrication is very helpful

+ Must be familiar with each machine control to insure proper machine codes are utilized during post processor development
